Question: cat lost his tooth and ....? hip dysplasia

My Maine Coon Cat has hip dysphasia. It does not seem to bother her. I bought it (saved) to an animal shelter 5 years ago and they said it was fine. Does that shorten their life even if she shows no pain or problems? In addition, she has lost her teeth when I bought it within two weeks. The vet I took her to said she saw no sign of illness or other reason why she lost. Maybe she smacked his lips against the window chattering birds (her Favorite thing to do). Heh. But I sure this sweetie. I hope that his life was not reduced by these issues. Ideas?

Answer: Pain in the hips is usually arthritis (dogs get dysplasia) and will not shorten his life but it may be settled if it starts giving him constant pain. Contact a veterinarian or holistic to sign on more Handicats on YahooGroups and ask if there is a general treatment that works or can at least reduce the pain for cats with this condition. Most cats lose some teeth, but still totally edentulous can eat dry food if the pieces are quite small.

Another excellent place to shop for Hip Cat is at Amazon... Yeah, Amazon, they have more than just books!

Question: Can a cat that had an FHO procedure on his hip still have kittens later?

Is the leg to support the extra weight of pregnancy? Thank you for your answers!

Answer: I know a cat who was pregnant, after you perform this procedure. The cat was in extreme pain and we could not get near her. She delivered prematurely and had trouble taking care of kittens. Because she was ill, she was very aggressive and does not want us near the kittens. The plan had been help her with them just so she could mother (move closer to her, supplementary feeding, etc.) but pain and stress made it impossible. We ended up adopting kittens away from her and bottle feed in order for them to survive. Then it was into drugs against pain because she was no longer nursing and becomes an animal friendly Nice again. Please Spay your cat and do not take the chance of it or you going through a similar ordeal. If you asked this question because it is already pregnant, take her the vet and see how far along she is. It might even be able to be sterilized. And if not, the vet can give you advice on how best to help her through this pregnancy and you can then be sterilized.
