The teeth on the small don't really dig into the fur of my long haired cat good enough. (thats part of the reason she's shaved like a lil lion now but cute. Anyways, I worked at Moochie and Co. (small pet shop chain) this Christmas and we sold one type (not specific to dog or cat) to use on both dogs and cats, and we had no complaints. The only reason you may want a small one would be for a cat with very thin, fine or short hair, like a siamase cat or something. I think most of yours are a little more furry

okay, my family is thinking about getting a dog and we found one that is almost perfect, he is medium sized doesnt eat furniture or stuff on the floor hes great! but, he sheds like crazy, i mean CRAZY, he came over for an hour to see our house and there was hair everywere!!!!!!! i saw that people liked the furminator but will it work this dog? if so how often should i use it and how should i use it? he is a lab german shepered mix (we think).

i have asthma too, so i know this thing works cause i have no issues w/my asthma.

use it OUTSIDE and probably in a place where the wind can't kick the hair in your face (like a garage or shed).
all you do is collect the shed hair in a plastic bag and toss it. this comb is just awesome it's worth the money.
