Question: Help !!!!!!?
I have a pine tree about 3 stories high, 6 feet from my side deck and 12 meters from my house. We remain in a condo complex and they apparently have an expert say that the roots do not damage the foundation or basement. The roots proliferate not only to the basics but also black stuff and staining my deck and covered deck makes my sticky. What do I need to know is, can cause damage to these roots, because I do not think the apartment Specialists say union was out, and why my deck is going black. Thanks
Answer: The first thing I would do is You ask the club for a copy of the "experts report" to. Any reputable arborist / contractor had something to put in written form. If they do not copy, then I would be the name of the person (company) and make a phone call my own. I would be curious to guarantee as someone that the roots of any kind could not start a potential problem for a foundation could. I do not think a pine tree is also a concern as a pasture would be (actively seeking water sources and travel long distances). If you have noticed, a sign of water leakage in the area of the tree (in your basement if you have one), then votes something that the integrity of the foundation. Without that it will be difficult to see, but not impossible. As for the "Black Stuff" It's probably Juice, either blowing on your deck or covered by the activities of the various birds / animals. Not much you can do to stop it, save, remove the tree or putting up by a canopy. The black is more than likely just bark residues / contaminants, which are to comply with SAP. We had a house with the same situation (Kiefer and deck). For aesthetics, we just stained the deck with a darker color and apply a protective coat of stain. We still had to the deck, however, regularly clean, but at least that was the dropping of SAP not permanent stain.

Question: Any ideas for safely locking a motorcycle in a condo parking lot?
I am moving into a condo from a house. I used to have my motorcycle safely stashed in the garage at the house, but now it will be out in the open. I use my car to go to work usually so the motorcycle will be left alone during those days. But I am also concerned about it at night. I have seen wheel locks with built in alarms which seem like they would work in conjunction with a heavy chain. There are no light poles or anything sturdy to lock the bike onto, and I think the condo assoc. will make me keep it in a parking slot, so I can't chain it to a tree on the lawn. Does anyone have any creative solutions? Anyone have experience with LoJack? I will be so bummed out to come home one day to have it gone because a couple of guys lifted it into the back of their truck and took off...
Answer: keep it at a friends house or somewhere, where you can lock it will a good sized chain. it only takes a couple of sec to load that thing in the back of a truck or trailer and its gone.

New Hampshire Christmas Tree Farm
Question: I was told by my conduminum that I have to transplant my blue spruce tree as it is too close to my house.?
It is approx. 5 feet from my back door. They said that the roots could cause damage to my condo foundation and door. Can someone let me know how far it should be planted from the house. Right now the tree is 3 years old.
Answer: Colorado Blue Spruce are one of the largest of the conifers. They can reach 75 feet tall and have a spread of 25 feet. With a tree that size, I would be more comfortable moving it at least 20 feet away from the foundation. The roots on Colorado Blue Spruce are heavy and destructive. Better safe than sorry.

Question: What is your favourite cat bed?
Looking to buy a nice cat bed for my kitten so he'll stop sleeping in the litterbox. He likes things that are enclosed and snuggly.
Is there any way I can encourage him not to sleep in the litterbox? I've tried to make a cubby-hole with blankets for him. I've put a heating pad under a couple of soft shirts and receiving blankets.Answer: Never in my life did I ever have a cat who would sleep in their bed. But now, I have two. I picked out the fluffiest, most comfortable looking beds I could find. It took about a month for them to start using them but now one, if not both, of them are almost always in their bed. Even though the beds are identical they have even decided which one belongs to who haha.
If your kitten likes enclosed spaces, Walmart sells something call the Kitty Kube. It's a plushy hollow square with a hole in one side. Nice and enclosed.

Question: I have a cat that we have had for 3 years she has started obsessive licking and makes her self bleed?
my cat will not stop licking her belly and paws she does this all the time and makes herself bleed and she has bald spots. she has no fur on her belly at all. We purchased her a cat condo thinking this may give her something to do but it has not helped at all. Her front paw is so bad that it looks like the bone is going to start showing. Does anyone know what may be the cause and if there is anything that we can do to stop this behavior?

Omega Paw Roll'n Clean Self Cleaning Litterbox How it works
Question: Has anyone ever used the Rollaway Self-Cleaning Litter Box (Omega Paw)?
Does it work? Is it a hassle to clean?
Answer: Sometimes it is. Some cats are scared of it and will only run from it and start defecating in other parts of the house. Also, you have to empty the "container" that the feces is scooped into daily, or every other day depending on how many cats you have, or it doesn't get rid of the smell or the mess and seems like more of a hassle then it is worth. Just make sure you read the directions carefully.

Question: What is the best way to clean the omega paws self cleaning litter box?
I live in an apartment, so taking it outside and spraying it down isn't an option. Is it possible to just give it a good scrub down inside of an apartment?? Or would I be better off with a LitterMaid.
Answer: Seriously I agree with the first suggestion.
I used to use my shower it had a detachable shower head to bring down and get close to spray out the box. Just make sure to get all the litter out first cause it might clog up your drains
and I would scrub out your shower afterwords so it doesn't smell like a litterbox in there afterwords. It should be ok.. I never had problems with it

Question: Cat food mat?
I just clean around my cat food bowls and threw away a homemade mat. There were bugs in the surrounding food that fell from the bowl, poor kitties. So now i don't have a mat on the wood floor. Is there a nice cat mat i can make or can i just buy one. Do you have some suggestions? Does anyone know of a cat mat from a website? Thanks
Answer: Placemats - they have lots of cute pet ones at pet stores or just buy whichever pattern you like at stores like Target, WalMart, etc. The washable cloth ones are nice, too. Pier One's got some of those or try Linens 'n' Things or other stores like that.
Another good thing to use is the top of a TV tray or any other sort of tray that has an edge around it. This way crumbs won't spread further than just around the bowl. There's also plastic trays like that that you can find at IKEA. I found a nice bright blue that works great for my cats - easy to just wash up in the kitchen sink.

Question: how dangerous is a cat flea collar to humans?
so i bought a cat flea collar for my cat and i put it on him.. i then went to eat a yum yum without washing my hands as i completely forgot. it says on the back of the packet to wash your hands after handling the flea collar. will i be okay? what will happen?
Answer: California is doing legislation to ban it. Apparently a toddler petting the neck of a cat who wears a flea collar is getting an overdose of pesticides just from the one touch.
Flea collars only keep fleas away from the neck, they don't keep fleas off the cat. If the collar gets wet, it can dump it's entire pesticide load all at once, onto the skin of the neck of your cat, causing a toxic overload and doing liver damage (if not outright killing the cat). They don't work, they're dangerous. Take it off your cat and use Advantage, Frontline or Revolution, which protects the entire cat for 4-6 weeks.

These chemicals are highly hazardous to animals and humans, can damage the brain and nervous system, and cause cancer. The April 2009 paper Poison on Pets II details a first-of-its-kind study by NRDC showing that high levels of pesticide residue can remain on a dog's or cat's fur for weeks after a flea collar is put on an animal. Residue levels produced by some flea collars are so high that they pose a risk of cancer and damage to the neurological system of children up to 1,000 times higher than the EPA's acceptable levels.Children are particularly at risk from these pesticides because their neurological and metabolic systems are still developing. They are also more likely than adults to put their hands in their mouths after petting an animal, and so are more likely to ingest the hazardous residues. We found that residues from two pesticides used in flea collars—tetrachlorvinphos and propoxur, among the most dangerous pesticides still legally on the market—were high enough to pose a risk to both children and adults who play with their pets.
California has already determined that one of these pesticides, propoxur, causes cancer and that consumer warnings are required. NRDC is suing major manufacturers and retailers of flea collars with propoxur to make them comply with this requirement or pull the products from California shelves. However, California’s laws are not enough—the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should step in to ban these dangerous products nationwide. Retailers should help keep pets and families safe by pulling products that contain tetrachlorvinphos and propoxur from their shelves.

A Cat Collar
Question: Is putting a bell on my cat's collar likely to make him more nervous?
My cat is almost a year old and he's always had a collar with a bell on it. I like it because when he runs out of sight outside i can find him because of the bell. But a friend told me that the bell constantly ringing in his ear with every move he makes might make him more nervous and affect him mentally. I cant find much info on this. So, what do you think?
Answer: Rarely is a cat this anxious or nervous due to a small noise such as a bell. Loud, sudden noise yes. Many actually get so accustomed to moving with the bell, they do so without making the bell ring! Much skill indeed. If your cat is anxious or fearful, it's not because of his collar or bell. Slowly socialize him and desensitize him to those unusual things that may frighten him by associating them with positive things, such as a treat, petting, a toy, grooming, or having a bed, feed bowl or scratch post near the object of his fear. If he's anxious of visitors, doors opening and closing, people moving about, etc, you can work on this. Fears of normal things, such as fearing a loud noise, sudden movement, strange cat or dog, or something threatening should not be desensitized or considered abnormal. I only say all this because your friend seems to think he's already "nervous" and the bell contributes to this state. If he's a fine and frisky feline, then don't worry about any anxiety your friend fears he will get. Let's not give him issues he doesn't even have yet ;]

Question: What could/should I do with my cats?
My dad is getting sick and tired of my cats scratching our dining room chairs when they have a perfectly fine brand new 150 dollar scratching post. Whats the best pet friendly chemical or spray that doesn't wreck would and that can get them away from the furniture and another spray I can put on the scratching post so they will go on it more? Also please give me the best tips on how I can convince my dad to get a kitten. Ive tried everything! Please help! Thanks
Answer: Keep your cats' nails trimmed and provide a scratching post that they like and use. You can purchase sprays from the pet store that will make the post more appealing to them. You can also dangle toys from it, especially ones with cat nip.
You can also get your cat caps to put over their nails so they can't scratch up furniture. The link below will take you to Soft Claws, a common brand you will find in most pet stores.
Work on the cats you have now, then worry about adding to the family.

you would be better off just putting some wood in with them, or if there outside they may dig. alternativly you could get a lead and walk them over concrete/rock flooring. or just leave the nails to grow and clip them when there to long
