Question: What is a pet store that you hire to 16 years and actually sells pets. not only supplies?
I am looking for a job with animals and I already work in a kennel, but I want to work in a shop because the work kennel is a seasonal business, so what is the pet store that just does not sell strictly material, but sells pets too. =] Thank you in advance.
Answer: You will need to go to your local yellow pages and find a smaller, mom and operation type pop. Often times, large chains like PetSmart and Petco will not hire under 18 because of liability issues. Start shop there frequently and let them get to know you. In the meantime, check as many as you can about them. If they buy animals they sell to a commercial breeding operation, you really do not want to work there. Puppy Mills = yuk! Another option you might consider is an apprentice to a groomer or trainer. You would not pay much (if at all) at first, but you will work with animals, and learn a useful trade.
